Having worked on so many weddings in the past 32 years of my career, I have this to say about engagements, it is the best time to get to know your photographer and for him to know you. A lot of people do not think they need to know their photographers, but that’s not true, y’all need to know each other, especially the photographer and it is usually the engagement that is the perfect time; first official meeting,first time taking your pictures, getting to know your poses and what works for you both.

Quite a number of new couples planning their weddings have asked me what to do on their engagements. Remember engagement shoot is the best time to show the real you, and the love you have for one another is shown through the photographs. Here are a few engagement shoot tips;

Engagement shoots is about both of you, so be comfortable. Most photographers delete 40-50% of the pictures taken during engagement shoots and what this means, is that, it is during engagement shoot that you get to try out different styles, so be comfortable in your skin. If you are uptight, it will show in your photographs, so be very comfortable and flexible and try out different poses with your partner.

Be fashionable

Bring as many fashionable clothes as possible. There is nothing as too much in engagement shoots. Be stylish, bring colorful and playful clothes to your shoot. Mid-tone colors are suitable for the camera, please avoid white, taupe, beige, Super pale pink/blue/yellow. Also avoid patterned clothes and any pale color won’t work for the camera, bring vibrant colors such as red, yellow, loud blue, pink and other makeup shades.

Timing of Shoot

For outdoor shoots, I love shooting 3-4 hours before the sun goes down. Camera works best with sunlight and whatever you are doing should be done when the sun is still bright, it brings out colors and makes the photographs look pristine, once the sun goes down, it brings darkness and dark photographs are a no-no. So, include this in your engagement shoots for better results.
